Cathegory 9 Song in national language
‘Whisky’ by ‘Dzem’
By Anna.Cz & Justyna.Ł
We want to teach you sth. about unforgetable and forever live band
‘Dzem’.
The band’s name comes from English word ‘Jam’ which is pronounced like
Polish word meaning ‘fruit preserves’.
Ryszard Henryk Riedel born September 7, 1956 in Chorzów was the original lead
singer of blues-rock band ‘Dzem’ (Jam). Riedel finished his education after
the 7th grade of primary school. He has never attended to any singing
course. He was a self-taught.
In December 1973 he joined ‘Dzem’. His lyrics contained many autobiographical
elements.
In subsequent years he became a heavy drug addict which led to many
arguments within the band. He led a life of an outsider, ignored rehearsals
and even his own concerts.
‘In life only the moments are beautiful’
-What do you think of when you hear Dzem’s song ‘Whisky’?
- think of Billy, Billy the drunkard. He puts an end to drinking right?
- Yes
– Right so let’s call it a happy end to one’s relationship with
alcohol
–Thank you very much.
- And you..?
- Me? I think of freedom, motorcycles, riding idifferently
somewhere through the world. Independence, which I don’t have at this
moment (pointing at children) and my youth, although we didn’t have
whisky back then, only beer
- Thank you very much.
–‘Whisky, my wife’?..it’s a brilliant song about life, about
everything actually. It’s a good story to listen to while driving a car
and of course to sing along
Now our favourite song
‘Whisky-my wife’
It’s said in a city, what kind of guy is he.
He’still drunk.
He propably doesn’t know what the shem is.
Dirty, sloppy in astable he still sleeps.
What is he looking for in our city?
Go to hell-it’said by people full of singts,
people full of singts.
Once I wanted to be smarter and to be on their side,
sleep in clean bedding, and fresh milk drink.
I really wanted to be smarter and to be on their side.
Well I tought about wife,
to become one of them, to become one of them.
I have already kept my eyes on ranch, it was wonderful.
But anyone of beautiful ladies didn’t want to move in.
Everyone were laughing at me and calling out,
still calling me out ‘beautiful taily-coat you’ve got Billy’.
But you would be lame, you would be lame husband.
