This statue was built by Holger Wederkinch, a Danish sculptor in 1930. It was a gift from the Danish community to the city of Paris. It was originally meant to represent Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’Arc) but the city council of Paris decided the idea behind Joan of Arc was too “war-like”.
It is situated on l’île des Cignes (the island of Swans), in the middle of the Seine. Its green color indicates it is made of copper.
